The exhibition of the fifth Sony Creative Science Awards kicked off Thursday, with Taiwan’s tourism ambassador Taiwan OhBear appearing to demonstrate the award-winning works invented by elementary school students.
This year’s science competition attracted over 100 teams, which were organized by elementary students from 10 to 12 years old. After a nine-month training and working period, the top 20 inventions were chosen to be displayed in the exhibition tour in Taipei and Kaohsiung.
With their creativity and ingenuity, the children combined local products or specialties from their hometowns with lights, the theme of this year’s competition, and created unique scientific works during the event. The winning team created a game called “Carp fish light ball”(鯉魚炫光).
Three children from Nantou’s Liyu Elementary school (鯉魚國小) combined bamboo from their hometown with the sound and light effects to invent a soccer toy, which became one of the most popular works in the exhibition.
The Sony Creative Science Awards Exhibition will be held from July 20 to 23 at National Taiwan Science Education Center in Taipei, and will later be displayed at the National Science and Technology Museum in Kaohsiung from July 27 to 30. For more information, please visit the official website.
